Princess with injuries, nerve problems, PSSM2 and eye problems

Prinzessin mit Verletzungen, Nervenproblemen, PSSM2 und Augenproblemen

Princess has had quite a few strokes of fate - most notably a bad crotch accident in September 2022. In addition to positive effects on healing, nerves and stress, the CBD-CBG cure has also had such a positive effect on years of eye problems that hardly anything can be seen anymore.

My mare Princess had a serious accident in the pacer in September. Due to a technical defect, a wire rope came loose from the attachment of the separator bars and strangled her on three legs. The separating grid of the crotch machine was pulled over her back.
She was in shock and had many bloody cuts on the three legs. Bruising of all ligaments and a small tear of the support ligament on the right front were noted. Lots of gentle exercise and paddock were the treatment plan and the injury has also been successfully treated with the help of CBD pellets, hemp seeds and lots of walking exercise (she was only given painkillers and anti-inflammatories for a few days).

Twitch foot / houndstooth as another problem

However, 2 weeks after the accident, overnight, my mare had developed a twitch foot on the right rear of her walk. At first I thought it was the tension of the healing scars on that leg, but it did not improve....
So I presented her to the vet again. He was of the opinion that the sciatic nerve seems to be causing problems.
She also went to Vetmed for an exact diagnosis, where they could not find a cause. Clinically, everything was unremarkable.
A high dose oral cortisone administration on suspicion was their recommendation. But after all the side effects of cortisone were listed to me by my regular vet, I decided against it and injected the lumbar spine, ISG and sciatica with hyaluron instead.
This also showed no effect.
She was checked by chiropractors and osteopaths, but also by 2 TCM doctors. There were hardly any abnormalities in the lumbar spine/ISG area, at least no abnormalities that could cause this problem.
Anti-inflammatories like Metacam showed no improvement at all.
She enjoyed Equitron very much, however, after the 3rd treatment - maybe just by chance - a twitch foot developed on the other leg as well.
The vets I have had so far are actually clueless as she does not have a typical houndstooth. She can walk backwards and sideways without any problems and does not twitch at all. Flexion tests are also unremarkable.
Four days after the onset of this bilateral twitch foot, she suddenly had a fever of 40.5 degrees, was apathetic, and had eaten virtually nothing for 4 days.
Blood work showed an extremely high SAA level (indicator of inflammation) and anemia. She had been struggling with the latter last winter, where we could never find the cause.
Because of the high inflammation value, she was given antibiotics for a week. It was interesting that in the first days when she had high fever, the bilateral houndstooth had almost disappeared.

6-week cure as a gamechanger

After the antibiotics cure was over and I was already downright desperate how to get my normally so lively, cheeky, ambitious bundle of energy back, I got the recommendation to try the 6-week cure, consisting of CBD 20% + CDG 10%.
Now she gets already for 2 weeks this mixture 2x daily 6 drops CBD and 2 drops CBG oil on the mouth mucosa smeared.
Along the way, my mare moved to another stable.

Positive side effect: eye problems disappear

The first thing I noticed within a few days was the improvement of the cloudy eye - a positive side effect! There is also a little background story.
She suffered a corneal injury about 10 years ago (still with the previous owner). A scar has been left behind and is visible as a white line in her eye.
When she has more stress or can't tolerate a food, a white haze spreads over the eye. I had all sorts of diagnoses, but an eye specialist had recommended that I cut out all food. Done and lo and behold, the eye became clear again except for the scar.
Unfortunately it happens again and again, no matter if it is because of something in the hay or a special additional feed or stress, that the eye became cloudy again. Eye ointments help, if, only conditionally to not at all.
But now I come to the point! The eye is since the 6-week-cure again as good as clear except for the scar. Despite excitement because of the move and the food I did not change anything.

The move went quite peacefully. She felt comfortable in her new stall from the beginning. I would like to mention that the new stall was not completely foreign to her, as we have come here several times for training.
She has blossomed and is back to being my old, curious, cheeky, overzealous bundle of energy without being a nerd!
I hope it stays that way or even better ... the "twitchy feet" are disappearing too!
But now, since she is marching diligently again, they are hardly noticeable. She really doesn't seem to have any pain and that is the most important thing!
And my mare does not only benefit from the CBD oil products! She also has PSSM 2, a muscle metabolism disease. Horses with this genetic defect need extreme amounts of protein and minerals. I'm pretty sure that feeding her hemp seeds helped a lot in making sure she didn't lose muscle during her convalescence.
I can bribe her super with the tasty hemp sticks - she loves them more than anything!
