My 6 year old Hanoverian, Danciano, has been on the hemp seed and hemp sticks for a few weeks now.
After he tested positive for PSSM2 in the fall, I was looking for quality protein sources and supplemental feed that would help with his explosiveness and nervousness. Through a recommendation I came across Seewinkler Hemp Farm and I am pleasantly surprised. The quality of the feed seems really good to me, there is not a bit of plastic in the packaging and shipping and my horse accepts both varieties very well. At first he unfortunately spit out the hemp sticks, but after a good week he literally ripped them out of my hand and has loved them ever since!
Due to his PSSM2 disease, Danciano was always very narrow, did not build up any muscles and was very nervous and explosive in his whole behavior. He was never really relaxed when riding and cost me some nerves. Since I have been feeding the hemp seeds and hemp sticks with meadow cobs, he is like a changed horse. Thanks to the very good source of protein in the hemp, he is so slowly finally building up. He is nice and loose and finally shows what he is made of.
Since I completely changed the feed after the diagnosis, I can't say exactly which additives it's really due to. I am sure it is the overall constellation and the hemp seeds and hemp sticks have a big part in it.
Above all, I recommend these products to other PSSM2 candidates.
If you want to feed natural and high quality ingredients, you can't go wrong with the hemp products.
